The Williams Key is an emergency tool used by First Responders to gain quick access to buildings and houses. If you're prepared to move between services, you could become an area manager, a brigade manager or a chief fire officer. The drop key affords a higher level of security against misuse than other conventional fireman switches (this is achieved through the shape of the key used to operate the switch).

The key is commonly used by emergency services, locksmiths, and postmen to gain access to communal areas in high rises, apartment blocks, and other public venues such as stadiums and malls. There are six types of FB locks available, each with a corresponding key (three of which are available in standard or long lengths – the long variation denoted by an ‘L’). You could take a Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Public Services before applying to the fire service, although this is not essential. The purpose of the tool is to toggle the strike of a lock without doing damage to the lock, door, or frame.

Lock specifiers worked with the fire brigade to develop a small range of universal locks and keys which could be used to secure commonly accessed resources in the event of a fire.
