About this deal

Each Seagrass rug is unique, showcasing natural variations in weave and color that enhance its organic charm. These variations are inherent characteristics of the natural fiber, adding depth and visual interest to the rug. Whether placed in a living room, family room, dining room, entryway, or hallway, Seagrass rugs bring a touch of warmth and sophistication to any space. Seagrass needs to breath, so don’t install it in a basement or on a concrete slab. If you chose an area rug, routinely air it out. And don’t cover seagrass with plastic mats (think clear mats that office chairs roll on) as this traps moisture and can lead to mold and mildew growth. Step 2: Vacuum the step until completely clean. Onceyou have removed the carpet you will either be blessed to reveal real hardwood under your carpet or be cursed like me and reveal MDF treads and rough plywood risers. If you have MDF and plywood then you will need plan on covering up the plywood with a thin vaneer of finishing plywood. You can choose from a wide range of colours and styles, from bright coloured stripes to more natural-looking weaves. Whether you’re looking for sisal runners for halls, stairs or kitchens, we have the perfect flooring solution for you. Many designers think of the floor as the “fifth wall.” Together with the lighting, wall color, furniture and gallery-worthy art groupings, a perfect floor covering brings the whole vision into focus. Stylistic versatility is a hallmark of seagrass rugs and carpet. Their neutral palette is the perfect template to build your unique look.

Step 8: (This step is where you could use a second person to help but I somehowmanaged by myself). Pull the hose of your air stapler all the way to the top of the steps and set it down. Next, pull up the seagrass rug to the very top step’s riser, center the rug between the tape lines and staple to secure. Start in the center and then work your way outward. Be sure to put enough initial staples in. from traditional to transitional, seagrass carpet complements multiple design styles (shown: calypso) As Sisal stair carpets are natural fibre rugs, they’re quite absorbent and so spills should be cleaned as soon as possible. Do not steam clean or use wet shampoo on your carpet.Maybe you are considering buying a seagrass rug or installing seagrass wall-to-wall and have questions, like: What are the pros and cons of seagrass flooring? Will a seagrass rug match my style? Where can I buy a seagrass rug? (Hint: here!) Can I use a seagrass rug outdoors? Step 6: Paint Staircase with 2 coats of semi-gloss latex paint. It looks so nice and fresh I almost left it as is, but I know that with 4 kids, those white steps wouldn’t stay white for long. Use painter’s tape to mark the exact perimeters of your stair runner. This is a very important step. If you do not do this, then the stair runner can easily get misaligned. A straw- or hay-like smell is common in new seagrass products. Many seagrass rug owners report that this odor dissipates within a few weeks and is replaced by a more subtle smell that many find refreshing. Humidity can increase the smell, so expect a strong scent if you are returning to your home or vacation hideaway that has been sealed up for weeks or months.

Seagrass rugs are a versatile design element that have long been a staple in both stately homes and humble abodes. Sir Evelyn de Rothschild’s beautiful home on Martha’s Vineyard highlights wall-to-wall seagrass in the common room. Seagrass blends with the calming hues of coastal cottages and can warm up modern or contemporary styles. The beauty of a seagrass natural fiber rug is the neutral landscape it presents, ready and waiting for your final edits or additions. Step 9: Cut the bottom of the rug just above the shoe molding with very sharp scissors. Don’t staple all the way down the sides quite yet. Remove the ribbon edge from end of the scrap rug piece. Hot glue that ribbon onto the bottom of the stair rug. Now you can finish stapling. Seagrass rugs require the same maintenance that most floor coverings do: vacuum regularly and attend to any spills right away. We recommend that you vacuum one to three times per week, depending on the activity level in your home.

If you do end up with mold, we recommend treating the area with a mild bleach solution (one part bleach to six parts water). Always test the solution on an inconspicuous area of your rug (not on the binding)—you do not want it to bleach the fibers. Once deemed safe, lightly apply the solution to the area with a soft brush. Let sit for five to ten minutes and then rub with a clean cloth. Repeat if necessary. Be sure to dry the rug thoroughly. Our Care Guides offer more detailed instructions. The big take-away from my installation experience was to staple under the top edge of the treads after installing the runner all the way up. That way you have a nice, tight installation on each tread. (The step-by-step tutorial is linked at the end of this post.) Seagrass’s grass-like fibers are susceptible to mold and mildew growth with prolonged exposure to humidity or moisture. To avoid this undesirable outcome, make sure that you only install wall-to-wall in a dry, climate-controlled setting. Those in humid environments will need proper air conditioning to keep mold at bay. Seagrass rugs and carpet are darlings of the design world because they introduce a natural element into design landscapes and play well with a range of both timeless and on-trend interior styles.
