About this deal

The socks feel like a wetsuit when you slip them on, not gripping your feet as tightly as you may be used to from cotton socks. But I guess it would depend on the individual and the terrain - whether the membrane in the sock is more under attack from your toenails or sand/grit getting into the shoe from outside. but they are still under the tree because my daughter is isolating with covid so Christmas has been postponed!

His book “ Rigging Modern Anchors” has won wide praise for introducing the use of modern materials and novel techniques to solve an array of anchoring challenges. Perfect to be used on their own for walking, running, etc or as a liner to give a heat boost underneath your sailing, cycling, motorbike, skiing and other socks/boots. High top sealskinz are worthwhile for wet ground runs and for winter as they act a bit like a wetsuit for your feet! The two or three occasions I had a problem were when my boot went in water deeper than the top of a sock on my shin, usually when my foot unexpectedly shot into a wet hole in the ground. IMHO the Peak is in many ways as 'extreme' on the feet as anywhere - The combination of hard paved paths, deep bogs, man-eating tussocks and shin-shredding vegetation (all often within one mile) is hard to beat!

Just be aware that they are a little thicker than normal socks so you my have to size up your shoes I was lucky and had room to spare ! Shoes that are highly breathable(NOT Gortex) and socks that are warm when wet are common advice for cold wet environments.

The footwear you choose is a very personal question but as an experienced 20 year trekker, I can't imagine doing such a trek in cross-trainers but that's just me. Drynamix fabric, quick drying, cushioned in the right places, no-show w/ a heel tab, durable, not excessively expensive. Eventually they fail in really bad rain by virtue of the water running down your legs pooling in the socks. At the same time, GTX boots do get a bit damp in the conditions I described in my earlier post but nothing like the sodden lumps of leather that all of my non-lined boots used to become by the end of day one, no matter how much I sprayed and waxed them before the walk.Often apparel designed to work in one sporting activity very nicely crosses over to other similar activities. I had no sock issues and no blisters, but man did they fill with sand at the Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon. I've got my eye on these - not the cheapest things in the world but christmas is coming up and they could probably do dual-duty for snowy hikes.

After two years, my attitude towards cycling in the elements on this island has changed 180 degrees—I now find it quite liberating to be covered in earth juices.I wear them in my clipless shoes when biking when it is cold or wet and I think they are magic for that. I have a pair of those long Beaver neoprene socks (the 3 mm variety) and they're nice soft neoprene with virtually no internal stitching that would be likely to cause chafing. Perhaps hiking was just too much for them, but we abandoned them when they started leaking after just a few trips. give up on waterproof trail running shoes forever, use normal non-waterproof ones when it’s wet (and dry), get wet feet - be sad (and cold!

Stink seems to be a minor problem, again thanks to merino wool construction, which we strongly recommend. They were expensive, bulky as hell in the gear drawer, and forget about adjusting any boa dials with them on. You're warmer in a wetsuit while your skin remains dry, it's just that when water does get in the tight fit of the wetsuit limits the amount and prevents it from moving around too much. The main downside is you need to keep moving somewhat rapidly otherwise you get very cold feet with all the wetness but that isn't usually a problem.
