If you have trouble with bad things happening to young kids, skip A Father's Love and, moreso, Bullied.

It is not included in promotions available to our main range products, as stated in our terms of service. A vengeful family hides an army deserter for eight years after the end of World War II, cocooning him in a false reality where the war never ended. All of our books are 100% brand new, unread and purchased directly from the publishers in bulk allowing us to pass the huge savings on to you! Ito’s famous for purportedly spending up to ten hours a day on a page with pen and paper, making his artwork as dark as possible. It’s not that these stories are bad, they are just missing out on some of the cosmic or grotesque horror I tend to read Ito for. That’s not to say this is a bad collection, but Ito has such wonderfully scary other pieces that many in this volume fell flat for me. I find it easy to recommend Deserter because, as a whole, it is cemented in my mind as a very solid collection. The last book that came out was one of his newer works, which I was unfortunately dissatisfied with as I have been with other newer work, but this information about Deserter gave me something to anticipate. He has come to try to process his grief and make himself desirable again as a husband, a father and a business partner.

Ito’s artwork is always bouncing from the ethereal beauty of ghosts and nature to the disgusting body horror and gore of an R-rated film. In the story, a girl who likes eating exotic foods — like insects or snake blood — bites off more than she can chew when she finds someone into foods even more exotic and skin-crawling. Scripted Love” is another story where a man dumps his girlfriend, but this time she’s not about to let him get away with it. I prefer the supernatural stuff myself, but some of the more grounded elements, such as in “Bullied”, really effectively got under my skin. Deserter was a creepy collection of short stories and I really found myself enjoying every single one.

Others, such as “Face Thief” and “The Devil’s Logic” have good concepts behind them but the payoff is either a rushed conclusion or a story that feels like its potential wasn’t fully reached. I think it's time I take a break from junji, it's not hitting the spot like it used to when I first read his stories.
