She thought I'd find it interesting as she found it enlightening (even with all her existing knowledge about ASD) and we have wondered for a little while whether I would qualify for a diagnosis of ASD. I think if I had been given this book as a teenager, I'd have discovered I am autistic a lot sooner and potentially saved a lot of stress and unhappiness. When I was given books about Autism / Asperger's or watched television shows, I felt so much of what it's like to be autistic was missed out. She has worked with children and young adults with a variety of physical and cognitive disabilities for around 30 years, and is very knowledgeable about ASD.

I like how it's got someone's personal life and experiences in it to help others understand that they're never alone and not the only one going through it.I found I could relate very strongly to a majority of the passages in the book, both in my life currently and from my childhood.

Every page is a part of this young man's life opened up before us that will resonate with every teenager who has Autism and help them to know that they are not alone. Having an Autistic child myself, it helps me to better understand her thought process and how to possibly help her deal with them better. Teachers employers and the powers that be also, should take the time to read it to help in understanding the children and adults who have no sign of disability but suffer everyday on the inside . I was 16 and wanted to help other kids like me to know they’re not alone and give them something to show their parents.I'm not sure if I will be pursuing an ASD assessment just yet (at the age of 28, I'm not sure how much benefit I'd get from one), but I've found this book very helpful and comforting. Part memoir and part guidebook to gaining a deeper understanding, The Secrets of My Spectrum offers a one-of-a-kind insight into the Autism Spectrum —written by a sixteen-year-old. I particularly liked the part you mentioned about describing model cars, with headlights etc, being on realistic roads following the Highway Code. Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund too. It's very insightful and so interesting to hear the side of someone with autism, especially when I see my son struggle, this book has given me a better understanding as to what is going on inside his head.

Wishing others understood more about the challenges of being on the spectrum, the teen shares his insights, perceptions, reactions, and experiences, from the triggers that lead to anxiety and shutdowns to tips for coping with stressful situations such as travelling, socialising, and communicating. Wishing others understood autism from his perspective, the teen shares his insights, perceptions, reactions, and experiences living with autism, from the triggers that lead to anxiety and shutdowns to tips for coping with stressful situations such as travelling, socialising, and communicating. I have been recommending this book to others who I feel may benefit and I know it has helped me immensely. I am going to suggest my son now read it to try and make him realise he is not alone with his struggles.

It has given a possible explanation for many things I've wondered about, such as why I reacted a certain way as a child in certain situations, and also as an adult. With honesty and forthrightness, The Secrets of My Spectrum explores the challenges—and the great gifts—that come with living on the spectrum. It is a well written personal account explaining the way this individual experiences the world and what he does to help himself. I encourage everyone to read this to gain an insight into how people with autism live everyday and feel we can all learn to be more understanding and accommodating to all neurodivergent people.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I read it hoping to find a book helpful for autistic teens (which it certainly is) but it really taught me something too. This really helps see things from his point of view to help understand some things he struggles with too, and has already got me thinking about possible triggers he will have for GCSE exams and college interviews etc.

brilliant book that is going to help many people understand autism more and help children with autism know they are not alone with not enjoying certain things that others seem to. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others.
